A petition called Justice for Mona Wang is up on Change.org. It's calling for the firing of a Kelowna RCMP officer. It also demands the officer be charged with assault. The petition was started after video surveillance surfaced showing the officer dragging Wang down an apartment building hallway the night of January 20th. Police were called for a wellness check on the UBC Okanagan nursing student. She admits to trying to commit suicide that night.
Wang has filed a civil lawsuit against the RCMP and Constable Lacey Browning, claiming she was assaulted. Kelowna RCMP Superintendent Brent Mundle says an officer outside the detachment is currently conducting an internal investigation.
"Once that investigation is completed, it will be forwarded to an outside police agency who will review our investigation to determine if it's complete, thorough and unbiased," says Superintendent Mundle.
Once all investigations are complete, Mundle says they will be forwarded to provincial crown counsel for review and potential charges.
Superintendent Mundle adds the Kelowna Detachment has also undertaken a code of conduct investigation.
