Peachland council has given the thumbs up to work with the Regional District of the Central Okanagan on a 9 kilometer hiking trail that would extend from the Southern tip of Peachland towards just North of Summerland.
The next step towards starting work on the trail is seeking approval from the BC Government, since the trail would be built on Crown land.
“The regional board has approved setting aside $50,000 from the Central Okanagan-West Electoral area gas tax funds for future development of this trail,” says RDCO Communications Director Bruce Smith.
There is also some historical significance to where the trail could be built.
“It would follow the historic Fur Brigade Trail, which dates back to before Europeans settled in the valley,” says Smith.
If the project is greenlit, the Districts would need to decide where exactly the trail will be, and what parts need improving before construction.
