Lake Country RCMP arrested a break and enter suspect in the Oyama community with the help of a Kelowna police dog named Dex.
At 12:50 AM on Thursday, police responded when an alarm was triggered at a store on Oyama Road, and arrived to find a suspect fleeing the store.
After they set up a perimeter around the store, Dex and his handler, RCMP Corporal Frank Roberts, were dispatched, and successfully tracked down the suspect: a 28-year-old Vernon man.
Hundreds of dollars’ worth of stolen lottery tickets, alcohol, and other items were recovered at the scene.
“We believe our suspect’s escape may have been slowed, due to the sheer number of packages of cigarettes concealed in his pants,” says RCMP Corporal Jesse O’Donaghey.
The suspect remains in custody at this time, and faces potential criminal charges.
