A suspected car thief has been taken into custody in Kelowna.
Around 4AM, a black Chevrolet Cobalt collided with a parked pickup truck in the 500-block on Glenmeadows Road.
Kelowna RCMP were called to the scene only to find the driver of the car had fled on foot.
After setting up a containment area around the neighbourhood, officers deployed a police service dog to track the driver.
A suspect was later taken into custody at the perimeter of the search area.
“Police Service Dog Fitz performed a confirmation track, where his search for a suspect from the crash scene led to where officer had taken their suspect into police custody,” said Corporal Jesse O’Donaghey.
Officers later discovered the Cobalt had been reported stolen to police in Williams Lake.
A 35 year old Kelowna man remains in custody facing potential charges.
