Police in West Kelowna are trying to track down a critical witness to the assault of an elderly woman.
On Monday night, the severely injured victim was discovered in the backcountry near the Bear Lake Forest Service Road.
The 79-year-old was promptly rushed to hospital.
Less than 24 hours later, a 60-year-old man was arrested in connection to the assault.
Police believe the suspect used the victim's own vehicle to drive her into the backcountry, where they encountered another person.
“Our investigators would like to speak with the citizen, who they believe was concerned for the well-being of the elderly woman, when he encountered the suspect and the victim along the way,” said Corporal Jesse O’Donaghey. “We have reason to believe that the suspect re-assured the stranger that he was taking the injured elderly victim to hospital for care.”
West Kelowna RCMP are now appealing to the witness to come forward.
