A Kelowna based hospice association says an RCMP investigation is underway into possible embezzlement.
The Board of Directors at the Central Okanagan Hospice Association says it retained a forensic investigator and forwarded its records to the RCMP after an audit revealed the mishandling of money.
"Through our annual audit it was suspected monies may have been misappropriated prior to our fiscal year ending March 31, 2016" read a news release sent Thursday.
The association is not providing further details, saying it doesn't want to jeopardize the RCMP investigation.
The Kelowna RCMP would not confirm the investigation.
"RCMP do not typically confirm or deny investigations unless criminal charges have been laid, if public information is sought in order to advance an investigation, or should investigational findings indicate a public safety risk posed by the outstanding matter" said Corporal Jesse O'Donaghey in an e-mail.
The association says it's not being deterred by the incident.
"We must not lose sight during this time and remain focused on supporting the dying and the grieving in the Central Okanagan."
