We've certainly heard criticism for how slow the City of Kelowna has been to licence legal marijuana stores. Now, City Manager Doug Gilchrist defends the process.
He says staff is working hard to avoid what he calls, mis-steps.
He says, "If it takes a little longer to do it right, I'm not going to apologize for that. I think our team is doing a very good job of vetting the locations, vetting the applications and putting a licencing process in place that people will be happy with."
Gilchrist told the AM 1150's Early Edition that the mission is to licence the right number of retail pot shops for the population of Kelowna, and in the right locations. He calls it good planning.
Gilchrist says the rush to open retail stores, following legalization last October, has resulted in mistakes being made at both the federal and provincial levels of government. He promises a careful and thorough job at Kelowna City Hall.
