Some critics of a proposed apartment tower complex in Kelowna's Mission neighbourhood say the area is becoming too over-developed.
The proposed Aqua development, on land next to the Cook Road boat launch, features three towers, the tallest at 19-storeys.
Lloyd Manchester, who drives Lakeshore Road daily, says the rush to develop the area has increased traffic congestion and has affected air quality.
"The fact that all of these vehicles are actually idling for long periods of time; drive times from the Mission into town are anywhere from 35 to 50 minutes," says Manchester. "We really have to look at the situation from a cumulative impact perspective rather than just 'Oh, this project's okay because we can deal with the sewage, but we'll deal with the traffic sometime in the future.'"
Others criticize the size of the towers - currently, buildings are capped at 6 stories in the area.
However, it's not all negative - there are residents who feel the Aqua development is another step in making Kelowna a world-class resort destination.
A public hearing on the proposal will be held Tuesday evening at City Hall.
