Kelowna has posted the locations of proposed pot shops on their website. If you want to see the addresses, click here. The 31 sites posted are listed as follows. Z19-0001 to Z19-0031. You'll hve to click on each one individually. The city is expected to post more this week.
Among them you'll see the old Vancouver Career College building on Leon downtown as well as the Capri Mall.
Community Planning Manager Ryan Smith says staff will review all the proposed sites and then forward the applications to the new city committee charged with evaluating the proposals. Each will be scored using a number of criteria.
Smith says, "Sites in close proximity to social agencies such as homeless shelters would rank lower as would sites near daycare centers, schools, liquor stores and nightclubs."
The evaluation process is set to begin in the 3rd week of January. Marijuana retail stores in Kelowna won't be opening quickly.
As Ryan Smith says. "We want to be sure that all the neighbourhoods get the best results possible."
The new city evaluation committee will whittle down the volume of applications so that only the best go to city council for final licence approval.
