The BC government says it wants to continue attracting tourists from overseas.
Tourism Minister Lisa Beare was in Kelowna on Friday, announcing a $150,000 marketing campaign, specifically for food and wine tourism.
"Starting this month, a new marketing campaign by Destination BC will encourage BC residents to visit our province's wine country," she said.
"And in May, another campaign launches to attract tourists from outside of BC, to our world class wineries and restaurants, and tourism adventures all over the province."
The campaign will be split into two parts - one to attract visitors from other parts of the BC, and the other to bring in international visitors.
Beare talked about the key market they're eyeing in Asia.
"China is BC's second largest market for tourism, and it's tripled since 2010, and it's still growing. Last year alone, tourism from China grew by nearly 20%," she said.
Beare also announced the creation of her new Tourism Engagement Council, which will advise the industry as it launches new policies later this year.
"We're establishing the minister's tourism engagement council, which will be a broad-based advisory group. It will represent the diverse range of industry experts from all across the tourism sector."
Anyone across the province is invited to apply - applications have been posted up on the government's website.
