The Provincial State of Emergency due to the wildfires burning across British Columbia has been extended until Wednesday, September 12th.
It was initially declared on August 15th to allow resources and personnel to be efficiently shared and co-ordinated on a federal, provincial, and municipal level.
534 wildfires are currently burning across the province. At this time, 34 evacuation orders are affecting 3,200 people, while 53 evacuation alerts are affecting 21,800 people. The extension of the Provincial State of Emergency will provide further support for those residents.
Last year's Provincial State of Emergency lasted ten weeks, having been extended four times. The last one before that was declared way back in 2003.
