The province's police watchdog is investigating after a man died in R-C-M-P lockup in Kelowna.
Police say a 40-year-old man was taken to hospital after a vehicle hit a tree on McCulloch Road Friday night, and he was later taken to a police lockup after being cleared by medical staff.
Officials say officers began C-P-R when the man was found unresponsive in the holding cell Saturday afternoon but he was pronounced dead around 2:40 p-m.
The man's identity and cause of death have not been released and the Independent Investigations Office is now looking into the case.
