West Kelowna RCMP had to deploy ATV’s to capture a suspect in a stolen vehicle who fled from the police into the woods Tuesday afternoon.
After police found the stolen pickup truck near Bear Creek and McDougall Creek Forest Service Road, they got into position and laid out a spike belt to catch the suspect.
The suspect avoided the spike belt and drove into the back country, but he was unable to outmaneuver the police ATV’s, which caught up to him near Hayman Lake.
28-year-old Cody Lee Allen Nelson of Kelowna was arrested without further incident, and made his first court appearance on Thursday afternoon on charges of possession of stolen property, fleeing from police, and possession of a controlled substance.
The brown Ford F-350 pickup truck had been reported as stolen on July 9th from Bulman Road in Kelowna.
