A number of scams, often targeting seniors, have resurfaced in Kelowna and West Kelowna prompting a warning from the RCMP.
Corporal Jesse O'Donaghey says one involves a man that goes door-to-door asking for money to pay for a tow truck.
“Often the man claims to be a neighbor of the scam victim and that he has broken the door key for his vehicle, often the lock and he’s found himself short a small amount of money that he needs to pay for the services of a tow truck.”
The man promises to pay the money back but never returns.
Another scam involves people going door-to-door pressuring homeowners to purchase a service that they don't want or need, for an overpriced amount.
O’Donaghey is also warning residents when it comes to purchasing items from people they don't know.
“This is often electronics from unknown induvials in parking lots or other public locations,” he says “often times again, those items being sold are overpriced and the buyer can feel pressure to buy quickly as there’s usually described to be a limited supply.”
O'Donaghey says the scams aren't new to them but are hoping by raising awareness, people won't fall victim.
