Kelowna council has approved the re-zoning of land that would add a hotel onto the end of Enterprise Way.
The new six-storey Hyatt hotel would go at a currently empty lot at the southeast corner of Enterprise and Spall Road
Planner Emily Williamson says the project includes a mixed-use building with residential and commercial units.
"The applicant's proposing the construction of a six-storey hotel and a six-storey mixed use building - the mixed use building having commercial and residential. It has a shared underground parkade with access off Enterprise Way," she said.
Williamson was also asked why staff capped the height at six storeys.
"It was a suggestion that was made in considering the nearby properties. an adjacent proposal has come in at four storeys, and on the north side of Enterprise Way, a similar proposal is around 4-6 storeys. So the six storeys is consistent with what's currently being proposed.")
That site also wouldn't create a negative impact on surrounding traffic, based on an impact study.
The detailed plans in the development permit will go forward to a public hearing.
