Interior Health has declared an outbreak of Meningococcal Disease in the Okanagan area.
11 cases of the disease have shown up this year alone in the Oliver and Vernon area, over twice the usual yearly number.
In response to the spead of the illness, Interior Health is opening a number of immunization clinics at the Vernon Health Unit, the Penticton Health Centre, and the Community Health and Services Centre in Kelowna.
The clinics will be open to patients ages 9 to 12 and 15 to 19, which are considered to be the age groups that are most at risk.
Symptoms of Meningococcal Disease include fever, vomiting, and oversensitivity to light.
