The West Kelowna Fire Department was sent to a reported roof fire that ended up being a false alarm this morning.
Assistant Fire Chief Chad Gartrell says strong winds had ripped off a piece of a metal roof at an auto shop on Byland Road, hitting a power line nearby, causing sparks.
“When the crews arrived on scene, there wasn’t much, just that piece of flashing that in this wind storm, today has blown off and contacted the wire.”
BC Hydro was called in to inspect and fix the line.
The strong winds have sent down a number of power lines and trees throughout the Central Okanagan.
