A Peachand business owner is speaking out about the impact the flooding along Okanagan Lake is having on his business.
Praneil Rai owns 91 Restaurant, located along Beach Avenue, which is directly across from Okanagan Lake.
"We are still open for business. Whether it be the restaurants, the pubs or even the shops, the boutiques, we are still open. As much as it seems in the media that we are not, it is still business as usual down here".
Rai purchased the restaurant last May and is hoping business picks up with the summer tourist season just around the corner.
"We are still booking bands. We are still doing the drink specials. We are doing the dinner specials and hoping to fill up our patios, but we are starting to notice the decline as we get further into summer which is a little haunting for us".
Making matters worse is a reader sign along Highway 97 that says Beach Avenue, where most of the hospitality businesses in Peachland are located, is closed.
"If you are driving slow enough to see the scroll through, it tells you the street is closed from 13th Avenue to Todd's RV, but most don't get to see that, so they see Beach Avenue closed and they make the decision that they are not coming down this way. That is a little bit of a deterent and is kind of frustrating to see", Rai added.
