Kelowna RCMP have a man in custody after finding him behind the wheel of a stolen SUV out of Revelstoke.
On Tuesday, RCMP received a report that a white 2014 Ford Explorer had been stolen from the 300 block of 6 Street East in Revelstoke.
Local police immediately posted a broadcast message to neighbouring Detachments to be on the lookout for the stolen vehicle.
Shortly after 2:00 PM, Kelowna frontline members were alerted to a possible impaired driver operating a White SUV. Officers located the suspected White Ford Explorer traveling Westbound on Richter Street and after running the licence plate it was confirmed to be stolen out of Revelstoke.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver initially refused to pull over then drove into a parking lot at Bertram Street and Bernard Ave. Additional police units attended the location and the male driver and his passenger were arrested without incident.
The male passenger was released from the scene without charge.
The driver of the vehicle gave police a false name but Officers felt the man was not being truthful and he was later identified through fingerprint analysis.
Twenty-seven year old, Keith McKay of Revelstoke was taken into police custody and brought before a Judge at the Kelowna Law Courts this morning.
Keith McKay has been charged with multiple offences including posession of stolen property and driving while prohibited.
McKay remains in police custody at this time and further charges are expected as police continue their investigation.
