Kelowna Rockets Head Coach Jason Smith has been let go.
The announcement was made on the team’s website Monday morning.
“Any time you let someone go that is the quality of Jason Smith it’s very tough,” says Rockets General Manager Bruce Hamilton. “However the success of our hockey club ultimately falls with myself and I feel at this time we need to go in a different direction. Jason is just a wonderful person and we want to thank him for his time here.”
Smith joined the Rockets in 2016, and led the team through two full seasons.
In the 2016-17 season, the Rockets had a 45-22-5-0 record, and saw a record of 43-22-5-0 record the next year.
So far this season, they’re at 4-10-0-0.
Hamilton is expected to give more details at a press conference today at 3 PM at the Rockets dressing room.
