United Steelworkers union members are off the job today at the Tolko White Valley Division in Lumby, including the veneer plant, the forestry technicians and the roads crew. They're also off the job at the Tolko plywood and veneer plant in Heffley Creek near Kamloops. Workers in both locations will be back on the job tomorrow.
The union has adopted a rotating strike strategy to pressure the companies into a return to the bargaining table. Talks with the Forest Labour Relations Association broke down a few weeks ago when a mediator failed to find common ground between the two sides.
