BC's Education Minister has again refused to replace Rutland Middle School.
School District 23 maintains the 70 year-old facility needs to be replaced to address the needs of the community.
In a letter to SD23 trustees, Rob Fleming says his ministry is trying to keep up with student population growth through-out the province.
"Additionally, there are many schools to upgrade in the Seismic Mitigation Program, and the safety of students and teachers is a top priority." wrote Fleming.
The Ministry is focused on funding entirely new schools or maintaining the structural integrity of existing schools, but not replacing those that are standing.
Fleming notes that the Province has funded nearly three-thousand new student spaces in the Central Okanagan since 2007.
"I know the replacement of Rutland Middle School has been a priority for the Central Okanagan Board of Education for several years now." wrote Fleming. "At this time, a capital project at Rutland Middle School is not approved for funding."
Currently, Rutland Middle School relies on a fleet of portables to supplement the lack space inside the building - a fact that parents and trustees have highlighted to demonstrate the need for a new building.
The School Board will review the Minister's letter at a meeting on Wednesday.
