Secondary schools in the Central Okanagan may have Naloxone kits on site next school year.
School District 23 trustees will consider a motion at their meeting tonight that would see the nasal spray form of the overdose reversing medication added to the schools as a safety measure.
In a report to the trustees, an Interior Health risk assessment outlines that while the likelihood of an overdose at a school is low, the consequence of not having naloxone is high.
The report also reveals that the district has had reports of a couple of students who self-identified to using Fentanyl off school site and came to school for help.
If approved, the first aid attendant and vice-principal at the secondary schools would receive training on administering the medicine.
