Orchard Park Mall says it's way too early to discuss what it'll do with the units left empty by the future departure of Sears and Sears Home.
It was announced over the weekend that the department store chain is asking for court approval to close 11 more stores across Canada, including the two in Kelowna.
“I think it’s an exciting opportunity for us,” says Donna Markin, General Manager at Orchard Park Mall “Recapturing of the Sears boxes represents a tremendous opportunity to reinvest in Orchard Park Mall, which has been here for 46 years, so it’s a real first opportunity to be able to move us to the next millennium”
Sears and Sears Home are anchor stores in the mall, occupying two of the four largest units.
Markin says it will take a number of months before they come up with a concrete plan for the spaces.
“I think development is going to take some time because it’s going to require some research and strategic planning before we actually know what we’re going to do with that.”
Markin says they don’t know when the two stores will officially leave and the closure still needs court approval.
