The cold snap has broken records in the Central Okanagan.
Environment Canada Meteorologist, Doug Lundquist, says Sunday night's overnight low of minus 11.5 degrees is the coldest on record.
“For the 6th and 7th it’s never been this cold on record for the Kelowna area, “he says “And our records, we’re going back to the early 1900’s, we’ve stitched together a bunch of records that go that far.”
He says things will warm up mid-week but there are several centimetres of snow expected as well.
“Wednesday night, -4, when the heavier snow starts, into Thursday, getting up to plus 2 as it tries to keep itself above 0,” he says “So it’ll get back into that slushy kind of snowiness around Thursday.”
By the weekend, we'll see highs around 6 degrees, which is more normal for this time of year.
