Shadow Minister for Fisheries, Oceans and Canadian Coast Guard for Her Majesty’s Official Opposition Mel Arnold said on AM 1150’s Early Edition that although a new program to help the fisheries sector is expected to roll out soon, neither industry leaders on the East or West coast were consulted.
“Just to throw the money out there without some thought, without some consultation with the sectors it's going to, to know what is going to work and what is not going to work has been a big failure here.”
Arnold also noted the federal financial support for the agriculture sector - just 10% of what was requested - will do little to help large growers and processors through COVID-19.
Arnold says parliament needs to get back to in-person sessions so the government can be held accountable.
