Shannon Lake Road Bridge will reopen to all traffic by 8:00 am Thursday, October 12th at the latest, a week and a half ahead of its originally scheduled opening.
It was originally hoped that the bridge might open even earlier on October 1st; however, additional time is required to complete the concrete bridge deck and approach roads and to ensure complete and safe access for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
The replacement of the bridge over McDougall Creek and additional work along both approaches were required because the structure had reached the end of its useful life and could not accommodate larger vehicles, such as fire trucks.
The new, reinforced bridge is designed and engineered to accommodate all traffic and has an estimated 75 year service life.
The total project cost is $1.55 million including design and engineering, testing and inspections, and environmental requirements.
