Full-time staff at Shaw TV's Okanangan bureau are working their final shifts on Friday.
AM 1150 has independently verified that the majority of the community TV station's employees accepted voluntary buyouts from Shaw earlier this year, and that today is their final day with the company.
Shaw employees who didn't accept the buyouts were told they'd still be employed within the company, but were given no guarantees on what their potentially new job might be.
The decision to lay off staff from Shaw's Kelowna studio in Prospera Place will terminate at least five full-time positions.
It's believed that the station will stay on the air, and continue offering local programming, though official details haven't been made public.
Back in February, the Financial Post reported that 6500 employees took the buyout package - ten times the number Shaw had expected.
Reports surfaced that the buyout package offered employees six months of severance, with one additional month for each year they'd worked with the company, though it's not known if that's the same deal offered to employees in Kelowna.
Requests for official comment from Shaw have not yet been returned.
