Short term vacation rentals such as AirBnB’s are now legally allowed to operate in the District of Lake Country.
After years of community consultation, Council found that residents were open to the idea, and approved changes to the Zoning Bylaw in an effort to promote tourism in the area.
“We know that at any given time there are 150-300 short term vacation rentals in Lake Country,” says Community Planning Manager Jamie McEwan. “Tourists are looking for this kind of accommodation, particularly in communities with fewer options.”
These rentals are only allowed in primary residences, and may also operate near many established Bed and Breakfasts.
Having your residence licensed as a short term vacation rental spot is free in the first year, and requires a safety and fire check prior to licensing.
