Prospera Place will likely don digital signs in the near future.
On Monday, city council will consider a request from RG Properties, the owners of the arena, to replace the existing sign band on the building with 6 digital signs. City staff are recommending council approve the request.
Although the signs will be digital, Terry Barton, the city's Urban Planning Manager says they won't be animated.
“They’ll rather be more graphic oriented in terms of standstill images and they will largely promote the businesses within RG Properties as well as upcoming events and other community events that are tied in with the arena”
The signs will not be allowed to advertise third parties and the maximum light output will be restricted during night time.
Barton says requests for other, similar digital signs have been approved by council over the last several months.
“They’ve largely related to community projects,” he says “so there was one down in the Mission as part of the Okanagan Mission Secondary School that the city granted a digital sign permit for. The other one that was recently approved was for the Rotary Arts Centre”
Last year, council voted against allowing the Capri Centre to add a digital sign along the Highway 97 corridor, citing safety and aesthetic issues.
