With more hot weather in the Central Okanagan, the BC SPCA is asking dog owners not to leave their pets in the vehicle.
Branch Manager Sean Hogan says the risk of heat stroke for your four legged friend is highly probable.
"Any time that any animal is found in a vehicle we advise the public to contact the SPCA. The Regional District's responsible dog owner bylaw allows for a $150 dollar fine".
Last year, the Kelowna shelter received more than 140 calls for dogs in hot cars.
This year that number has already reached 73.
"It doesn't matter how long they (dogs) are in the vehicle. It doesn't matter if the windows are rolled down. If they are left lone unattended, the risk of that animal varies but they are still at risk of heat stroke", Hogan added.
