Union members at North and South Okanagan lumber mills are still voting on what Forest Labour Relations presented as their final contract offer.
United Steelworkers President Pat McGregor says the North Okanagan is done. It's Princeton right now. Kelowna and Grand Forks next week.....
But there's a potential problem.
McGregor says, "What's thrown a monkey wrench into things is the last minute lay-off extension notice at Armstrong Lumber."
Workers at that Tollko mill have been laid off for the past two weeks. They were supposed to return next Monday but now will be off the job for another two weeks.
McGregor says they'll call all the members in Armstrong to arrange a vote ASAP, because the union wants to get this phase of negotiations done as soon as possible.
He says we should know by next weekend if the union is prepared to ratify the contract proposal or not.
The Steelworkers have been in a legal strike position since last fall.
