West Kelowna RMCP have recovered a large number of bronze plaques stolen from West Kelowna and Kelowna cemetaries.
Due to public outrage and callous nature of the thefts, RCMP received a number of tips that lead to recovery of most of the plaques taken from Westbank Cemetary and all of the plaques taken from the Kelowna cemetery.
They were found yesterday at an undisclosed location.
Plaques stolen from Lake Country have yet to be recovered.
Officers found a large pile of bronze squares and it was evident the suspects had removed the names from some of the plaques and cut them into small squares
Likely in preparation to turn them in for recycling processing.
Police believe the plaques were stolen for their material worth.
The plaques have all been returned to their respective municipalities and the families affected are asked to contact the cemeteries to make further arrangements.
