99.9 Sun FM, 101-5 EZ Rock and AM 1150 along with BC Transit and Kelowna Regional Transit helped put food on the table for those in need this season with our 13th Annual “Stuff A Bus” campaign.
Sun FM’s B Mack & Karly, Ari Daniel and Kylee Roman broadcast live at the event at Superstore in West Kelowna. Community members and the Fire Department stopped by with non-perishable food items, baby basics such as formula, diapers, toys and clothes in addition to cash and helped us Stuff A Bus! The students and staff at Sprott Shaw College kicked off the effort on Thursday last week with the food & other items they had collected plus cash with their corporate office matching funds raised!
EZ Rock’s Andy & Tj, Mark Jefferies and Derek Scott manned the Kelowna location effort with live broadcasts at Superstore letting listeners know they could stop by all weekend and help make Christmas a little easier for those in need. What a sight to see all the bags of food and other wish list items throughout the bus!
General Manager Ken Kilcullen says, “I cannot think of a more worthwhile cause than putting food into homes that would otherwise not have much this Christmas season. This year’s campaign exceeded our expectations due to our community’s assistance. We are proud to be able to serve our community with the Stuff A Bus campaign.”
This year with the help of our Kelowna and West Kelowna communities, we collected over $12,000 in cash ($36,000 with the Food Banks’ buying power!) and 31,000 pounds of food and toys and other non food items for those in dire need. Thanks to the BC Turkey Farmers, Superstore and Papa John’s for their support as well.
"We wish to thank 99.9 Sun FM, 101-5 EZ Rock and AM 1150 and everyone who contributed to this campaign. Thanks to you there will be fewer homes here in Kelowna and West Kelowna going hungry this Christmas. Thank you for your generosity of food, funds, toys or your time this weekend" said Lenetta Parry, Executive Director of the COFB.
Jeff Winskell, BC Interior Group Program Director says, “All of us at the stations are amazed at the feeling of good will put forth by the residents of the city. The Kelowna & Westside Community Food banks experience higher levels of need each year. Through our Stuff A Bus initiative, we are able to provide a vehicle to increase the donations of food to fill their shelves. This proves that when our local group of three radio stations ask our community to help out, they respond.”
