The Robbery Section of the Kelowna RCMP General Investigations Section is investigating after a suspect robbed a downtown bank.
On January 29, just before 1 p.m., RCMP received a report of a bank robbery in progress at the TD Canada Trust located on Ellis Street in Kelowna. All available RCMP resources flooded the immediate area to search for the suspect. Frontline officers were supported by the Police Dog Services Unit on the ground, and the Kelowna RCMP Air Services helicopter from above.
Police learned that the suspect had entered the financial institution where he demanded cash. He fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.
"After a coordinated search officers located the suspect a short time later in the area of Pandosy Street and Leon Avenue," states Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy spokesperson for the Kelowna RCMP. "He was arrested without further incident."
The suspect, a 48-year-old Kelowna man, faces potential charges and remains in police custody at this time.
