The 2018 Kelowna Polar Bear Dip is set for Monday, January 1st, with funds raised for CRIS Adaptive Adventures. A group that provides opportunites for people with disabilities to experience outdoor and nature adventures that may not have the special equipment or access they need.
Organizer Emelie Sarkissian says around 3 thousand was raised for CRIS last year and they're hoping to raise closer to 5 thousand this year. She hopes "to have around 300 people in the water and even more people there to support those ones that are brave enough to go in."
Sarkissian has done the dip herself and offers a tip. "Youre feet are the worst part. My recommendation is to throw on some flip-flops or any sort of water shoes because your feet are going to feel it the worst, for sure."
The event is at Tugboat Bay and begins at 1pm on Monday with registration, music and food trucks.
The divers hit the water at 2pm.
