The RDCO has a brand new electric truck. Staff have nicknamed it Casper because it's so stealthily quiet, you can barely hear it.
Communications Officer Bruce Smith says "The quietness and no exhaust features of the electric vehicle supports one of the goals of our Regional Parks Mission Statement to protect the environemnt. "
Casper is acutally a Might-E Truck, manufactured by Canadian Electric Vehicle Limited on Vancouver Island. It cost the regional district $35,000. The district received a $5,000 rebate grant from Plug-in BC to offset the purchase.
The vehicle is licensed for regular road travel. It moves at a top speed of 42 kilometers per hour. Plus, it's narrow enough to easily navigate the pathways and bridges in regional parks.
