RCMP in West Kelowna say people are having items stolen out of their vehicles at an increasingly frequent rate.
According to police, there have been 175 cases reported of people breaking into vehicles, in the first seven months of this year, including 50 reports over the last six weeks.
That's about a 47% increase over the same time last year, and while the majority have been reported downtown, there have also been many thefts in residential neighbourhoods.
In one instance, a thief stole the vehicle owner's drivers license, birth certificate, credit cards, social insurance number card, and passport.
What's no surprise, is that the people most often targeted are ones who leave their vehicle unlocked, with valuables uncovered inside.
RCMP recommend addressing those two issues, as well as reporting suspicious people who are lingering around parked cars.
