Tommy Chong, one half of comedy duo Cheech & Chong, will be Kelowna today to visit indoor gardening supply store Quick Grow on Kirschner Road.
Owner Darryl Borsato says who better than a world famous 'stoner', to help promote the business, now that recreational cannabis is legal.
"When you look at the industry, and you're looking for a real counter-culture icon within that industry, Cheech & Chong were celebrities in this world when we were still kids. So, to have someone like that come here and ring in this new era of cannabis in Canada is pretty exciting," he says.
Borsato says they had no real problems getting Chong to agree to attend their event, but there was one minor glitch.
"We set everything up and he lost his passport, so we rescheduled everything to today which actually worked out to be a bit of a blessing because a lot more people are available to attend, given the Friday evening time slot, and I think we're going to have a great turn out," he says.
Borsato also owns Diablo Nutrients which distributes plant food specifically for use for growing marijuana.
Chong, who'll be at Quick Grow at 5:00 pm, is a well-known pot activist who also sells his own brand of cannabis paraphernalia.
He's also expected to attend legal pot celebrations in Vancouver and Victoria.
Chong and partner Cheech Marin made a name for themselves playing pot heads on several comedy albums, and in movies like 1978's "Up in Smoke", "Cheech & Chong's Next Movie", and "Nice Dreams."
