A little bit of good, a little bit of bad news on how COVID-19 impacted the tourism sector in the Okanagan.
Tourism Kelowna's Lisanne Ballantyne says the summer wasn't all doom and gloom.
"In June and July and August, our visitation numbers shot up, 25 points over last year for June, 35 points over last year for July and 30 points over last year for August. We didn't expect that."
While the tourism numbers were above the provincial average, they were significantly lower than a typical summer in Kelowna.
The hotel sector was the hardest hit.
"I am sad to report the hotel occupancies, although they did alright, they were significantly down over how they did last year. The visitors came through but the spending patterns changed significantly this summer", Ballantyne added.
