The Coast Capital Savings Canada 150 fireworks celebration will take place on Saturday, Aug. 5 in Stuart Park. The event starts at 6 p.m. with live music, park and play, dancing in the park, and a fireworks display to cap off the evening at 9:30 p.m.
Parking stalls on the west side of Water Street in front of Stuart Park will be closed from 8 a.m. to midnight to accommodate the event. Motorists are asked to use caution in the area as there will be a high volume of pedestrians expected.
Residents can reduce traffic and parking congestion by choosing various modes of Active Transportation, such as biking, walking and carpooling.
BC Transit will have regular Saturday level service through the day, with additional shuttle service from the Queensway Transit Exchange following the fireworks to accommodate the increased number of passengers anticipated.
The Canada 150 fireworks will be shot from a barge on the lake with a large drop zone. Any spot along the waterfront downtown would provide a good vantage point. Boaters are asked to respect the drop zone area. The display is put on by an experienced and federally regulated fireworks producer under a Kelowna Fire Department permit and will be specially choreographed to Canadian music in honour of Canada’s 150th birthday.
