The RCMP's Central Okanagan Traffic Services conducted a traffic blitz today in Lake Country, as part of a larger effort this month, to crack down on distracted driving.
Kelowna RCMP Corporal Jesse O'Donaghey says officers were out for about two hours, and handed out a total of 35 tickets with 28 of those for distracted driving - the rest were a variety of speed, seatbelt, licence and insurance related offences.
The unit then moved to just north of the airport, on Highway 97, and issued nearly a half a dozen distracted driving fines.
O'Donaghey says five vehicles were towed after drivers were stopped for allegedly travelling at excessive speeds - at least one was clocked at 41-kilometres-an-hour over the limit.
Investigators also arrested an impaired driver.
