The trial for a Kelowna man charged with dangerous driving causing death began today, January 17.
28-year-old Trevor Richard Stocks pleaded not-guilty in the 2015 incident.
On May 22 of that year, Stocks was driving a Honda Civic on McCurdy Road near Morrison Road, when he collided with an oncoming Toyota Tercel going the opposite direction.
The Toyota was being driven by 21-year-old Joselyn Casavant, who died at the scene.
Today's witnesses included a motorist who was driving in front of Casavant before the accident. She testified she saw Stocks driving “really fast” before he lost control and crashed into Casavant. She saw the collision in her rear-view mirror and called 9-1-1.
Another witness was a civilian who was one of the first people to get to the scene. He said he stabilized Stock’s neck in case he had a spinal injury, during which time he asked Stocks if he had been drinking. Stocks said no, but that he may have been driving a bit too fast.
The posted speed limit in the area is 50 km/hr.
The trial is expected to take 2 to 3 days.
