The trial of a Kelowna RCMP officer charged with assault is being rescheduled.
Corporal Chris Williams was scheduled to stand trial next month, but a judge approved his application to adjourn so that he could get a lawyer.
Representing himself in court on Thursday, Williams said he didn't have legal representation because his application with the RCMP to get a publically funded lawyer was held up and not approved until March- the RCMP provides legal assistance to its members at the Crown's expense in certain circumstances.
In February 2016, Williams was charged with assault and put on administrative leave following an investigation into his handling of a man he arrested in May 2015.
A new date for his trial, which will be heard by a judge and jury, will be chosen later this month.
