Thanksgiving dinner will be served at noon to the residents of Kelowna’s Gospel Mission’s emergency shelter on Monday, October 12th at 251 Leon Avenue.
Staff have been working alongside residents of the shelter and volunteers to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving dinner which will be served a bit differently during this pandemic. People who are in need, those living with disabilities, or low income, including many seniors, will receive their meal in a to-go container.
The meals will be served by the Mission’s Mobile Outreach Team as well as at the back door of the shelter. The 60 men who live at the shelter will be served a Thanksgiving dinner in their beautifully decorated dining room.
Carmen Rempel, Executive Director of Kelowna’s Gospel Mission, said, “This year giving thanks has more meaning than ever. Our community has worked hard to keep people safe by following the advice of Dr. Bonnie Henry. It is scary for our residents not knowing when the crisis is going to end. It would be overwhelming if it weren’t for the incredible acts of generosity and kindness that we are seeing in our community. The spirit of charity and caring has given us all strength this year. We believe that love and compassion is the beginning of changing lives.”
Kelowna’s Gospel Mission is pleased to have the support of so many in the community. Included in the volunteers who will be serving meals are MP Tracy Gray and MLA Norm Letnick.
Kelowna’s Gospel Mission’s needs extend beyond Thanksgiving and any help is greatly appreciated. Please contact the Gospel Mission to donate, become a regular volunteer or give an in-kind gift.
