A cabin fire in Lake Country has claimed the lives of two dogs.
Lake Country Deputy Fire Chief Brent Penner says the cabin was located off of Beaver Lake Road near Clark Creek.
Although it wasn't in Lake Country’s jurisdiction, Penner says given wildfire concerns, they responded with B.C. Wildfire crews when the call came in after 2:00am.
The two people inside barely had time to get out.
“They woke up, they knew the place was on fire,” Penner said “It must have been quite a scramble to get out because at the end of the day two of their dogs didn’t make it out, so if they would have had time I’m sure they would have saved their dogs.”
The cabin has been completely destroyed.
“The roof structure was gone, I think there was only 3 walls of the 4 walls still standing,” he said “You know, there’s no dry wall in these sorts of cabins, it’s just a tinder box, so basically they got out, called 911, by the time I was able to get out there basically the structure was gone”
The fire is believed to have started on the front porch, where cooking had been done earlier.
