West Kelowna is a fast growing community. While it has two separate governments, they can often be viewed as one collective.
West Kelowna City Council determined that building a better relationship with the Westbank First Nations would benefit residents and members of both governments.
Mayor Gord Milsom says that as political leaders, they can best serve residents by working together on matters of mutual concern.
These include crime reduction, homelessness, health care, tourism, improvements to Highway 97 and lobbying BC Hydro for a second source of electrical power.
“Collaboration can be achieved by meeting together on a regular basis, listening to each other and learning from each other. As a result, we may be able to identify ways by which we can continue to move our communities forward in positive progressive ways,” said Mayor Milsom.
Westbank First Nations, Peachland and West Kelowna councils will meet on April 15th.
