The Shuswap Emergency Program is monitoring two fires in the North Shuswap that were reported to the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) late this afternoon.
The first fire reported is at Anglemont near Evelyn Falls. BC Wildfire Crews have a four-person RapAttack Crew on scene with two helicopters bucketing the blaze. This fire is being considered a high priority fire by BCWS, who are not expecting substantial growth of the fire through the night.
The second fire started on private property in Scotch Creek and involved firefighters from the Scotch Creek Lee Creek Fire Department as well as BCWS. Crews are getting good control of the blaze and it is not expected to spread further. The local fire department remains on scene, with the BCWS protecting the treeline. The BCWS response includes a five-person Initial Attack Crew. Air support is also being provided.
All fires in the East Malakwa Corridor have been extinguished or under control. In addition, the fire south of Spanish Lakes near Falkland has also been declared under control.
The Shuswap Emergency Program is in close communication with both our CSRD fire department and BCWS. Should there be any renewed threat to public safety, updates will be provided on the CSRD website, the BC Wildfire Service website, as well as on the CSRD and Shuswap Emergency Program social media platforms.
