The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is tracking two out of control wildfires burning in the Okanagan.
Crews are on scene of a wildfire near Kerr Creek, burning approximately seven hectares in size northwest of Penticton.
Fire Information Officer Taylor MacDonald said they suspect lightening sparked the blaze last Wednesday, September 4th.
“We have 25 BCWS personnel responding today. We don’t have any aerial resources on that one right now just due to some challenging weather, cloudy and rainy, but they are available if they weather clears up.”
The second wildfire is burning 26 kilometres West of Peachland, and according to MacDonald isn't currently threatening any communities or infrastructure.
Its cause is also suspected to be lightening and was sparked on Thursday September, 5th.
“We have 30 personnel responding again today. Their crews are just working to establish some control lines on that one and it’s estimated at 10 hectares in size but again no aerial resources on that one due to challenging weather,” said MacDonald.
Smoke from the blaze was fairly visible over the last few days in Peachland and Kelowna but Macdonald said current weather conditions will reduce visibility and help control the flames.
“We're seeing quite a bit of precipitation fall. We had some storms roll through yesterday evening and a lot of precipitation followed with that into the evening and into this morning, so that is definitely helping crews out there.”
