It was a close call for one household this morning.
At approximately 4a.m. crews were called to reports of a fire in a basement suite in the 1300 block of Highland Drive South, near Clement and Bernard Avenues.
First responders located and extinguished quickly, limiting fire damage to the suite involved.
Smoke did migrate to the upstairs unit and Emergency Support Services was called to support the upstairs residents due to smoke damage.
The residents of the affected suite were taken to KGH by EHS to be checked for smoke inhalation.
The occupants of the fire suite, are not insured and are being cared for by family.
The cause was not released but the Kelowna Fire department urges the public to dispose of smoking materials responsibly.
